            Part (e) under Analysis:

            Change             453,000/(4,845,000 + 453,000) = 0.0842 = 8.42%

Exercise 3.27

            The solution given is incorrect because it assumes that the average mass-transfer coefficient, kc , is the same value as in Example 3.13, i.e.

5.81x10-5 m/s.  That value is only valid for a value of h that is large, e.g > 5, as it is Example 3.13.  In this exercise, however, the value of h is

small, such that the mass-transfer coefficient must be computed from Eq. (3.110), or more accurately using the first two terms of

Eq. (3-99).  The resulting mass-transfer coefficient is 8.97x10-5 m/s, which gives a distance of 0.043 m instead of the value of 0.067 m.

            Parts (a) and (b) under Analysis for that feed unit:

Exercise 6.22

            Equation (6-89) in Part (c) is very sensitive to the values of the inlet and outlet mole fractions.  The answer given for NOG  is incorrect.  When

calculated more accurately, the correct answer is 14.8 (not 3.32).  This answer can also be obtained by computing N = 17.9 from the Kremser

equation for a stripper, Eq. (5-50), followed by the calculation of NOG from Eq. (6-91), using N = Nt and A = L/KV.

            In both lines of Equation (6) for the solution to Part (c), the term kgacg  should be replaced by kLacL .

            In Part (f), with NOG = 14.8 (not 12.7), the packed volume becomes 16.4 m3.
